Horizontal Directional Drilling
Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) is a method used to install pipes or ducting of various sizes and distances, without causing disruption to ground surfaces.
A trenchless method for installing underground pipes and ducting
HDD is used when trenching or excavating is not practical in the area, and it avoids extensive open trenching. Methods can be varied, with deep projects requiring specialist equipment to enable accurate location for grade and control (up to 25 metres deep). When rock is encountered, special drill heads are required to enable the bore.
Bit Base Solutions have carried a variety of drilling operations over recent years, including upgrading sewers, gas mains, water mains up, and other pipe installation work, where only the technology of HDD can achieve the final application.
Approved horizontal directional drilling operators
currently have a handful of HDD machines. The machinery is always accompanied by a fluid removal plant to ensure environmental aspects are not compromised. Many of our directional drill team are good operators and have gained qualifications in ‘HDD Standards’. Training in directional boring and new technology is always ongoing.
